Deaths: Miss Rebecca Price, daughter of James A. Price, 41, Jan. 13, 1940, from a stroke of paralysis; Frederick Gansemer, 64, Paoli, Jan. 15, 1940, of a stroke of paralysis.

Miss Wilma Wisdom and Hugh O'Neal were married last Sunday in a ceremony that took place at Sidney, Neb. Officiating: Rev. G.A. Schwabuer, pastor of the Methodist Church at Sidney.

Miss Georgia Hess and Clair Grover, Haxtun young people, were married last Wednesday afternoon at Chappell, Neb., by the Rev. Benedict Swartz of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Fairfield News – The REA crew came into the Fairfield community last week with the wire.

Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Green and son are attending the Stock Show in Denver this week.

Jan. 19, 1955

Hospital news: Mr. and Mrs. William Barker of Fleming are the parents of a baby daughter born Jan. 15 and named Kimberly Kay.

Wesley McCune, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. McCune, was recently appointed general manager of the Democratic Digest, published in Washington D.C., by the Democratic National Committee.

Rockland News – Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wisdom and girls called at the Wilford wisdom home Thursday evening.

Fairfield News – Mr. and Mrs. Carl Franson and Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Anderson visited with Gus Hadeen at the Pack Convalescent home Sunday afternoon.

Jan. 17, 1980

Winds estimated at 70 mph ripped through the county Thursday night, causing some broken windows at Clark Chevrolet building, as well as ripping shingles from roofs. In the rural areas, many miles of electrical fences were torn down, enabling cattle to wander.

Rhonda Potter and Darry Stansbury, Haxtun High School seniors, have been chosen Teenagers of the Month by the Sterling Elks Lodge Youth Activities Committee.

Immanuel Presbyterian Church of Thornton was the setting for the Dec. 29 wedding uniting Lori Jean Vandenberg and Steven Leslie Fiseck and performed by Rev. Richard Wynja.

Miss Carol Sue Ruch and Mr. Ronald Satini Liufua both of Boulder were united in marriage Dec. 29 at the United Methodist Church in Haxtun with the Rev. John Bengtson, grandfather of the bride, performing the double-ring ceremony.

Jan. 18, 1995

Charles "Chuck" H. Allen, 73, longtime conservationist, died Jan. 1, 1995, at Haxtun Hospital. He served in the Army in England and France during World War II and worked for 35 years for the U.S. Soil Conservation, both in Haxtun and in Byers.

Mabel Stryker, 81, died Jan. 9, 1995. She was a dealer for Tri-Chem and was very active in her church.

Bernice "Lenore" Salvador, 88, died Jan. 14, 1995, at the Heritage Living Center. At age 13 her mother passed away. In order to finish her eighth grade year, she took her three-year-old brother to school with her while her grandparents kept her three-month-old brother.

New addition: Jasmine Rose Russell, 2, to Kae Russell, Holyoke.

Haxtun students who qualified for the Regional Spelling Bee are Allie Thompson, Clayton Stephens, Jeff Miner, Ciara Schelling, Elijah Meakins, Tanley Andersen, Kellan Landis, Isabella Tori, McKenna Andersen and Riley Thompson.

Rod Workman resigned his position with Haxtun Schools effective March 31. The Board of Education accepted Workman's resignation letter with regrets during a meeting on Jan. 20.

The color purple will flood Haxtun and the rest of Phillips County come early June in celebration of Relay for Life. The 14th annual Phillips County Relay for Life is set for June 6 at the Haxtun Ball Park.

Private Ariana Amaya, 18, Haxtun, graduated from United States Marine Corps boot camp training at Parris Island, S.C., on Dec. 5, 2014.
