Lady Cats add wins over Blue Knights and Bulldogs; advance to 7-1

The Fleming Lady Wildcats moved on to 7-1 with recent wins over the South Platte Lady Blue Knights out of Big Springs, Neb. and the Otis Lady Bulldogs. Fleming served as host for both events last Friday and Saturday nights.

The Lady Wildcats came out with a narrow, four-point lead after the first quarter on Friday night against the Lady Blue Knights. The widened that scoring gap to nine points by the close of the half, 26-17. They took their most commanding lead of the contest throughout the third quarter, going up by 17 heading into the fourth. Despite being out scored by the visiting team by three points in the final quarter, Fleming maintained the lead and took a 49-35 win.

On Saturday night, the Lady Wildcats defeated Otis by a 29 point deficit. Fleming held the Lady Bulldogs to single digits in the opening two quarters and held a 40-9 lead at the half. Scoring looked more even in the second half and the Lady Wildcats walked away with at 65-39 victory.

Junior Brooke Schaefer led her team in scoring for both nights. She hit double digits on both outings with 22 against South Platte and 15 against Otis.

Sophomore Hadley Stull and junior Siena Donnelson followed Schaefer's offensive efforts on Friday night with nine and eight points, respectively.

On Saturday night, junior Ciana Lousberg and Donnelson contributed double digits on the scoreboard with 13 and 10, respectively.

Stull led in rebounds on Friday with nine. Senior Ashley Bornhoft added another eight.

On Saturday night, Donnelson and Bornhoft led under the net with six and five rebounds, respectively.

The Lady Wildcats are scheduled to play in three contests over the next week. They open with a league match up against the Prairie Lady Mustangs on Friday at Fleming. Saturday's action takes them on the road to Genoa-Hugo/Karval and they'll round out the week with a home contest against Akron. Junior varsity boys' contests will open on all three occasions. A 4 p.m. tip off scheduled for Friday, Jan. 17 and Tuesday, Jan. 21. Saturday's games at Genoa-Hugo are set to begin at 3 p.m.
