Dr. Ben Stephenson's time with Haxtun Health has come to an end. Julia Biesemeier, Interim Chief Executive Officer for Haxtun Health, confirmed Stephenson's departure from the organization on Monday, Dec. 16.
"We have made the decision that Dr. Stephenson's time with us has come to an end, however we appreciate his contributions and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career," said Biesemeier. "His care and heart for his patients will no doubt lead him in the future and we trust he will continue to bring kindness and dedication to all he does."
Stephenson's vacancy at Haxtun Health came the same week that Haxtun Health Board of Directors officially named Biesemeier Interim CEO.
Biesemeier had been asked to assist with CEO responsibilities while the Board discussed moving forward in the search of a new CEO in early October when the organization announced the retirement of then CEO Dewane Pace. While the announcement of Pace's retirement came on Oct. 3, his contract did not officially expire with Haxtun Health until just last week, on Dec. 10.
In a meeting on Dec. 9, board members approved appointing Biesemeier as Interim CEO as of Dec. 11. Biesemeier's appointment to the lead role of the Haxtun Health organization is to remain until the hiring of a new CEO. In the most recent update given on the search for a new CEO, Biesemeier said the Board of Directors is taking the time to thoughtfully plan out the approach in selecting the next CEO. A formal process will begin after the first of the year.
"We would like to sincerely thank Dr. Stephenson for his dedicated service to Haxtun Health and the care he has provided to many patients for the last five years. Dr. Stephenson's genuine compassion and commitment to his patients were evident in the way he approached his work and we are grateful for the positive impact he has had on many," Biesemeier said. "This decision was not made lightly and we recognize that it will have an immediate effect on many of our patients. Our care team is working together to ensure each patient has an option to transition their care to an appropriate provider. At Haxtun Health, we are deeply committed to patient safety, quality care and supporting our community."
Over the past several years, Dr. Stephenson has served as Chief of Staff for Haxtun Health, a role Biesemeier said is in transition to a new appointment.
"The transition in the Chief of Staff role is also underway and I look forward to sharing an official announcement in the coming days," the Interim CEO noted.
"Despite these changes, we are not missing a beat. Our team is focused, resilient and committed to meeting our patients and community's expectations. We are excited about the future and the opportunities ahead. Our commitment to providing exceptional, quality care remains our highest priority and we appreciate the ongoing support of our community during this time of transition."
