What can we reason but from what we know? -Alexander Pope
Looking to jump-start your 2025 and make it your healthiest year yet? If so, join the celebration of A Healthier Weigh's 20th anniversary - a wellness program that has inspired healthier living across northeast Colorado for two decades. Sponsored by Colorado State University Extension, this fun and supportive program offers the tools and encouragement you need to build healthier habits that last a lifetime.
Through educational lessons, webinars, wellness challenges and activity competitions across multiple counties, A Healthier Weigh focuses on increasing physical activity and making wiser food choices. Whether your goal is to move more, eat better, or improve your overall health, this program is designed to help you succeed. The cost to participate is $40 per person, with options to join as an individual, in pairs of two, or as a team of four adults.
The program begins with weigh-ins the week of Jan. 13. In Haxtun, weigh-ins will take place in the east room of the Haxtun Community Center on Tuesday, Jan. 14, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. In Holyoke, weigh-ins will be held at the Phillips County Extension Office on Thursday, Jan. 16, from 2-6 p.m., and Friday, Jan. 17, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additional appointments can also be arranged.
During weigh-ins, participants will use the InBody scanner, a sophisticated machine that provides a detailed breakdown of your body composition, including body fat percentage, water content, lean muscle mass, basal metabolic rate (BMR) and segmental strength. Optional fitness assessments will also be available for participants who choose to take part. The A Healthier Weigh program officially kicks off on Monday, Jan. 20 and runs through Sunday, April 13.
Throughout the 12 weeks, participants will earn points for physical activity recorded and completed lessons on health, nutrition and other wellness topics available online, via email, or in print to ensure accessibility for all participants. Weekly weigh-ins will not be taken, but a participant check-in with the InBody machine will occur at the six-week mark to help participants stay on track. At the end of the program, participants will be awarded cash prizes based on their progress and achievements (scale and non-scale). To further support healthy habits, don't miss the A Healthier Weigh recipe book that inspired the program's start and offers simple, nutritious options to support your health journey.
Now is the perfect time to start forming a team. Invite family members, friends, co-workers, church members or other community organizations to join you. Whether competing as a team or taking on the challenge solo, A Healthier Weigh is a great way to build healthier habits and find support. Don't wait, this is your chance to transform your health, stay active during the winter months and even win cash prizes!
