The Haxtun Lady Bulldogs are headed into post-season play this weekend. The volleyball team secured the 13th seed in a 36 team regional bracket released earlier this week by the Colorado High School Activities Association. The Lady Bulldogs are set to travel to the home of the Denver Christian Thunder on Saturday for Region 12 play along with Custer County. The three teams will play on Saturday with the winner advancing to the State Tournament slated for Nov. 14-16 at the Denver Coliseum.

Haxtun rounded out the regular season with a match up against Sedgwick County in Julesburg on Friday night. The Lady Bulldogs were close to taking set one, but a side out call for roofing gave the Cougars the ball back and the set one win, 26-24. Sedgwick County took a commanding set two, 25-9 but the Lady Bulldogs earned a 25-17 third set victory to send the match to four sets. The last went to the Lady Cougars, 25-15, for the final match victory.

Saturday's schedule pits Denver Christian, now 15-7 overall, in a contest with Custer County at 10 a.m. Haxtun will then see Custer County, currently 15-7 as well, in the second match up, slated to begin around noon. The last contest of the day will put the Lady Bulldogs on the court against Denver Christian.

According to CHSAA, each of the 12 regional winners will automatically earn a berth to the State Championship bracket, which will be released on Monday, Nov. 11. The State Championships will then occur Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 14-16 at the Denver Coliseum.
