The Haxtun Lady Bulldogs added their 14th win of the season at home with a sweep over Dayspring Christian Academy on Friday, Oct. 25. According to the Colorado High School Activity Association's weekly rankings released on Monday, Oct. 28, the Lady Bulldogs are 11th in 2A. This week they are set to take on the second ranked Sedgwick County Lady Cougars in the final regular season outing on the road Friday night.
Haxtun picked up a 25-9 set one win on Friday and rolled on with 25-13 and 25-11 set wins in two and three, respectively, for the sweep over the DCA Lady Eagles.
Senior Bobbi Starkebaum had a standout night at the net with a total of 11 kills and six blocks, leading her team in both categories. She registered a .455 hitting percentage, averaging 3.7 kills per set. Starkebaum averaged two blocks at the net per set.
Junior Josie Freeman put six kills on the floor against the Lady Eagles. Jayleigh Bullard and Emma Henry both registered four attacks followed by Emma Lemesany and Maggie Kilgour, each with three.
Henry, Bullard and Freeman each had one block at the net.
Junior Lilly Lemesany sent over 10 serving aces in the sweep. Kilgour registered five aces from behind the service line. Emily Anderson, Starkebaum and Bullard all served 100 percent against DCA.
In the back row, libero Lilly Lemesany and Kilgour each tallied eight digs followed by Starkebaum with five. On serve receive the Lemesany/Kilgour duo led in passes with seven each. Henry added five passes and Anderson put up four.
Senior setter Kelsie Hadeen registered 17 assists in the three-set win for the Lady Bulldogs.
On Tuesday, Oct. 29, Haxtun volleyball hosted Weldon Valley in the team's final regular season home contest. The Lady Bulldogs honored their parents with annual appreciation night activities.
The Lady Bulldogs took Weldon Valley to extra points in set one, winning 31-29 but fell in sets two, three and four 29-27, 25-23 and 25-21. The loss puts Haxtun at 14-7 overall with just one game left on the schedule.
Individual stats from the contest with Weldon Valley were not yet available as of press time.
Friday the Lady Bulldogs are set to take on the Lady Cougars in Julesburg. The Lady Cougars are 17-3 overall and 6-1 in the Lower Platte League. According to MaxPreps, the Cougars' losses come from Chase County, Neb., Idalia and Merino. The Lady Bulldogs met Sedgwick County in the first outing of the season in tournament play and in that contest, the Lady Cougars came out on top in three.
