Lady Wildcats maintain third spot in rankings; go 2-1 over past week

With just four games remaining on the regular season agenda, the Fleming Lady Wildcats maintained their third place spot in the Colorado High School Activities Association's 1A weekly rankings.

The Lady Wildcats fell to Haxtun on Tuesday, Oct. 15, by a match score of 3-1.

Junior Ashley Bornhoft put 22 kills on the floor in the contest; an average of 5.5 kills per set. Junior Ciana Lousberg followed, also hitting double digits, with 14.

Sophomore Hayley Chamberlain made the team's leading contribution from behind the serving line. She put over five aces for the night. Ciana Lousberg added two aces and junior Brooke Schaefer tallied one.

Senior Kylie Bretz-Hoskins led the Lady Wildcat defense at the net with three blocks. She earned one solo and two assisted. Ciana Lousberg, Bornhoft and sophomore Hadley Stull each added one assisted block.

Schaefer led the group in all back row categories from the Libero position. She defended 27 Lady Bulldog kill attempts with zero errors. She also led on serve-receive with 37.

Ciana Lousberg followed in digs with 13 while also adding 20 assists for the Lady Wildcat hitters. Chamberlain led in assists with 25 sets.

Hadley Stull followed Schaefer on serve-receive, putting up 19 passes.

On Thursday night, Oct. 17, the Lady Wildcats hosted the Prairie Lady Mustangs who currently hold the fourth spot in the North Central League. Prairie took the home team to four sets after winning set two 25-20. Fleming won the match with wins in sets one, three and four, 25-12, 25-21 and 25-21.

Bornhoft made an impressive defensive showing in the front row with five blocks; two of those solo. Bretz-Hoskins and Stull added two blocks apiece.

Schaefer earned a double double in the back row leading the team in digs and on serve receive with 17 and 30, respectively. Junior Emoree Lousberg followed in digs with 12. Hadley Stull followed on serve receive with 17.

Bornhoft led in kills with 10. Ciana Lousberg and sophomore Quincy Stull added eight kills apiece.

Ciana Lousberg held the setter's position for the majority of the game assisting with 16 sets. Chamberlain put up six assists.

On Friday night, Fleming hosted Briggsdale and swept the Lady Falcons for the second time this season. The home team earned set victories of 25-22, 25-15 and 26-24.

Bornhoft, Qunicy Stull and Ciana Lousberg each chalked up double digits in the kill column. Bornhoft led with 14; Stull followed with 12 and Ciana Lousberg added 10.

Ciana Lousberg and Chamberlain split setting duties from the front row. Ciana Lousberg led with 21 assists; Chamberlain tallied 20.

Bornhoft led the team in aces and blocks for the night. She tallied three aces and four assisted blocks.

Chamberlain added two assisted blocks. Hadley and Quincy Stull each assisted in blocking one kill attempt.

Schaefer, Ciana and Emoree Lousberg each tallied double digits in digs. Schaefer led with 25, Ciana Lousberg added 14 and Emoree Lousberg tallied 12.

On serve receive, Schaefer and Hadley Stull led the squad. Schaefer put up 27; Stull tacked on 20.

The Lady Wildcats took a week-long hiatus this week before they return to the court on Friday, Oct. 25. They're set to host Idalia that night for Pink Out night.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, the team is scheduled to travel to Simla to take part in triangular play with Simla and Cheraw. Matches that day are set to start at 10 a.m. Simla is the top-ranked team in 2A.

On Tuesday, Oct. 29, the Lady Wildcats will play on their home court for the final time this regular season. They are set to host the Merino Lady Rams that night beginning at 4 p.m. Merino currently holds the top spot in 1A.
