Lady Wildcats drop one spot; defeat Weldon Valley and Peetz

The Fleming Lady Wildcats have fallen one spot in Colorado High School Activities Association's weekly rankings despite taking wins over Weldon Valley and Peetz last week. Fleming now sits in the number three spot behind Merino and Idalia. Idalia took wins over Genoa-Hugo and Sedgwick County last week, a team that Fleming fell to in five sets earlier this season.

On Thursday, Oct. 10, the Lady Wildcats traveled to the home of the Weldon Valley Lady Warriors where they tacked on their first win of the week three sets to one. Weldon Valley took the opening set by two points, 25-23, but Fleming answered back with three consecutive wins, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-18.

Junior Ashley Bornhoft played a stellar game for the Lady Wildcats that evening. She put down the team-high 24 kills and the team-high three blocks - one of those solo. In addition to leading in those two categories, Bornhoft also received 14 serves in the contest, giving her a double-double for the night.

Sophomore Quincy Stull followed in kills with eight. Junior Ciana Lousberg and freshman Hadley Stull added seven kills apiece.

Sophomore Hayley Chamberlain led her team behind the serving line with five aces. She made good on 21 of 22 attempts behind the serving line and served for 16 points.

Junior Emoree Lousberg served over four aces. She put 20 of 21 over the net, scoring 13 points. Junior Brooke Schaefer added one ace. She served 92 percent on 25 attempts, scoring 17 points in the match.

Schaefer also put up top numbers from the back row as the team's Libero. She had a perfect game in digs and on serve receive, committing no errors for the night. She led the team with 31 digs and 23 serve receives.

Emoree Lousberg and Hadley Stull also added double digits in the dig category with 13 and 10, respectively.

In addition to Schaefer and Bornhoft hitting double digits on serve receive, Hadley Stull put 19 serves into play and Emoree Lousberg put up 12.

Ciana Lousberg and Chamberlain split setting duties for the contest. Lousberg assisted with 30 kills for the Lady Wildcat hitters. Chamberlain added 15 assists.

On Friday night, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Peetz where they swept the Lady Bulldogs. Set one ended 25-12, set two ended 25-11 and set three closed at 25-4.

Bornhoft again let her team at the net and kills with 10. Quincy Stull followed with seven.

Bornhoft led the squad and aces as well with eight. She served for 18 points. Schaefer followed with three aces. Emoree Lousberg, Chamberlain, and Hadley Stull added two aces apiece.

Ciana Lousberg led the team defensively with two solo blocks at the net. Bornhoft added a single solo block and Hadley and Quincy Stull each tallied one assisted block.

Chamberlain handled setter's duties for the contest. She put up 22 assists.

Schaefer led in digs and on serve receive with nine and six, respectively.

On Tuesday night, Oct. 15, the Lady Wildcats visited the neighboring Haxtun Lady Bulldogs. Fleming fell in the match, three sets to one. Individual stats from that contest were not available as of press time. Watch next week's edition of the Herald for the full report.

Next up on Fleming's agenda is a home contest against Prairie. The Lady Mustangs come to town on Thursday, Oct. 17 for 5:30 p.m. junior varsity and varsity matches.

The following night, Friday, Oct. 18, the Lady Wildcats are set to host Briggsdale for JV and varsity action beginning at 4 p.m.
