Haxtun goes 2-1 in busy week of volleyball action; currently 12-5

The Lady Bulldogs went 2-1 in a busy week of volleyball action over the past week. Haxtun took the court three times in five days; two of those at home and one on the road.

Action kicked off at home on Friday where the Lady Bulldogs swept the Akron Rams 25-20, 25-18 and 25-19 in a Lower Platte League contest. That win leaves Haxtun 5-1 and third in League standings, according to MaxPreps. Merino holds the top spot at 5-0 ahead of the second seated, 3-0 Lady Cougars from Sedgwick County.

Two Lady Bulldogs led at the net in kills against Akron; senior Jayleigh Bullard put down 11 kills and junior Emma Henry added 10.

Senior Bobbi Starkebaum and junior Josie Freeman both added two total blocks.

Maggie Kilgour, a senior, led behind the service line with five aces. Juniors Kinsley Koberstein and Lilly Lemesany each registered two aces and senior Kelsie Hadeen added one. Koberstein and Lemesany each served 100 percent for the night.

Kilgour and Lemesany led in the back row in digs with a combined 26 passes. Kilgour tallied 14 and Lemesany added 12. The two also led on serve receive, trading places, Lemesany coming up with 16 passes and Kilgour digging up 14.

Hadeen registered 16 assists against the Lady Rams, the team high, and in doing so earned her 1,000 career assist. Starkebaum tallied 13 assists.

On Monday, the Lady Bulldogs traveled west to take on the 1A Lady Mustangs in Prairie where they fell in three, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-14.

The following evening Haxtun hosted Fleming for varsity and junior varsity Tuesday evening contests.

The varsity Lady Bulldogs took a 25-21 set one win but fell 25-13 in set two to even things out. Haxtun bounced back for 26-24 set wins in both three and four for the four-set win.

Individual stats for the Prairie and Fleming contests were not yet available as of Wednesday's morning press deadline.

As of mid-week, the Lady Bulldogs hold an overall 12-5 record and according to Colorado High School Activities Association are 12th in State 2A RPI rankings. This week Haxtun hosts Kimball, Neb. on Thursday, and then Idalia on Oct. 22.
