The Fleming Wildcats have moved into the top 10 of Colorado's 6-man standings this week according to info provided by the Colorado High School Activities Association.
The Wildcats traveled to New Raymer on Friday where they faced off with the Prairie Mustangs in league action. Scores by quarter were not provided, but the Wildcats came out with a narrow, one-point win, 45-44. Fleming now sits in the second spot in league standings with Caliche in the top spot. Those two teams are set to meet up in the final contest of the regular season on Nov. 1.
Sophomore Treyson Kirkwood completed five of eight passes on Friday against Prairie. He threw for 75 yards with a long of 31 yards and a touchdown. Kirkwood averaged 15 yards per throw for the night.
Three receivers found themselves on the other end of Kirkwood's passes. Sophomore Dane Cunningham led in receiving yards with 52 of three catches. He caught the long pass of 31 yards.
Sophomore Conner Marchant caught one pass for 13 yards and senior Grant Kuntz grabbed one pass for 10 yards and a TD.
Kuntz led the team in rushing yards with 229 of 26 carries. He ran for a long of 37 yards and found the end zone four times on the ground.
Marchant added 65 rushing yards for the Wildcats off 13 carries. He scored one rushing TD.
Senior Peter Brekel led the Wildcat defense with 11 total tackles. He brought down seven solo and four assisted. Marchant and Kuntz brought down nine tackles apiece. Both players tallied five solo and four assisted tackles. Junior Mason Mollohan tacked on another nine take downs. His were split at four and five, respectively.
Sophomore Jadyn Sporing attempted five points-after kicks. He made good on four of those to add eight points for the Wildcats. Cunningham came through on a conversion for a single point.
Kuntz led on the scoreboard for the night with 30 points of his five TDs. Marchant rounded out the Wildcats' total of 45 with his six points.
The Wildcats are scheduled to hit the road again this week; this time to Seibert to take on the Hi-Plains Patriots. The Patriots sit a 0-5 on the year. The two team's only common opponent so far this season is Weldon Valley. Fleming beat Weldon Valley 58-20; Hi-Plains lost 51-8. Kick off at Seibert is set for 7 p.m.
