Fleming adds win over Weldon Valley

The Fleming Wildcats hosted and defeated the Warriors of Weldon Valley in Thursday night action last week. The win advances the Wildcats to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in the league putting them in the top 6-man North slot according to MaxPreps.

Sophomore Treyson Kirkwood ran Fleming's offense from the quarterback position against Weldon Valley. He completed four of six passes for 93 yards and a touchdown. His performance earned him a QB rating of 149.3 for the game.

Two Wildcats found themselves on the receiving end of Kirkwood's throws. Senior Grant Kuntz and sophomore Dane Cunningham each caught two passes. Kuntz receptions earned 70 total yards and a TD; Cunningham's resulted in 23 yards for the Wildcats.

Kuntz led the Wildcats in rushing yards with 282 off 13 carries. Those yards combined with his receptions, kickoff returns and punt returns, gave him 377 all purpose yards for the day. Kuntz scored five rushing TDs and averaged 21.7 yards per carry.

Sophomore Conner Marchant gained 81 yards for the Wildcats on the ground that night. He averaged 6.2 yards per carry.

The Monroe twins, Jaron and Dylon, both added positive yardage on the ground. Jaron averaged 9.5 yards per carry after rushing for 57 yards. Dylon added another 19 yards; averaging 6.3 yards per carry.

Marchant led the Wildcat defense with 10 tackles. He brought down three solo and seven assisted. Kuntz followed with nine tackles, split at seven and two, respectively. Senior safety Peter Brekel added eight take downs. He grabbed seven solo and one assisted.

On special teams, Cunningham kicked off eight times for 340 total yards. Of those eight kicks, he booted three into the end zone for touchbacks.

Jadyn Sporing attempted eight field goals for the night and made good on five of those attempts for two points each.

Kuntz led on the scoreboard with 36 points off his five rushing TDs and one catch for six points. Sporing followed with 10 points off his extra-points attempts. Jaron Monroe and Marchant each saw the end zone once for six points apiece.

The Wildcats continue their league scheduled on the road this week at Prairie. The Mustangs, who also hold a 2-0 league record so far this season, sit in the third place spot in the league according to MaxPreps. Kickoff at New Raymer, home of the Prairie Mustangs, is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday night.

The Wildcats will continue to play on the road for two weeks following their appearance at Prairie. They'll return to their home field on Oct. 18 when they host Briggsdale.
