Wildcats defeat Wildcats, 46-13, in homecoming & league opener

In combined annual homecoming and Fall Festival events held last Saturday in Fleming, the Wildcats took a commanding, 46-13, win over the North Park Wildcats for their first league win of the season. The Wildcats now stand at 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the 6-man North League.

According to MaxPreps, the Wildcats sit in the second spot in the 6-man North League behind Caliche who holds a 2-0 league record.

The Wildcat offense moved the ball 206 yards throughout the game. Their ground game saw 175 of those yards; the remaining 31 in the air.

Senior Grant Kuntz led the Wildcats in rushing yards. He carried the ball five times for 122 yards and two touchdowns on the day. Sophomore Michael Weis followed with 26 yards and junior Mason Mollohan gained 16 rushing yards.

Sophomore Ryan Brekel led in receiving yards after catching one pass for 17 yards. Weis caught a pass for 14 yards.

Sophomore Connor Marchant led the Wildcat defense with 12 tackles. He brought down five solo and seven assisted. He also recovered a fumble that he returned for 22 yards.

Sophomore Dane Cunningham kicked off seven times for the home team. He averaged 47.7 yards per kickoff and booted three into the end zone for touchbacks.

Kuntz led on the scoreboard with four touchdowns for 24 points. Marchant followed with 14 points off two TDs and a safety. Senior Peter Brekel and Cunningham also came out of the day with a safety; giving them each two points.

Sophomore Jadyn Sporing put two points-after attempts through the uprights giving him a total of four on the scoreboard.

This week the Wildcats are scheduled to play on Thursday evening against the Weldon Valley Warriors. The Warriors enter the contest 0-2 in the league with losses to Briggsdale and Peetz. They stand at 1-2 overall. Kickoff on Thursday is slated for 7:30 p.m.
