Lady Wildcats sweep Lady Falcons; sit in top league spot at 1-0

A single outing over the past week added one in the win column for the Fleming Lady Wildcats who now stand at 5-3 overall.

Last Thursday's match at Briggsdale marked the first league contest of the season and a sweep on that occasion puts the Lady Wildcats in the top spot in the North Central League. Weldon Valley, who is scheduled to meet the Lady Wildcats on Thursday, Sept. 19, holds the second spot.

Fleming came out hot in the opening sets at Briggsdale last week cruising to 10- and 12-point set victories, 25-15 and 25-13, to open. The Lady Falcons played Fleming a closer set in the third, 25-22, but ultimately fell in the match in three sets.

Lady Wildcat junior Ashley Bornhoft led at the net in kills with 17. Junior Quincy Stull followed, also hitting double digits, with 10.

Junior Ciana Lousberg handled the majority of the setter's duties for the night. She put up 23 assists while also tacking on six kills. Sophomore Hayley Chamberlain put up 14 assists for the Lady Wildcat hitters.

Five members of the Lady Wildcat squad served 100 percent in the contest. Sophomore Hadley Stull made good on 13 attempts behind the service line with one ace. Ciana Lousberg led in aces with two after going 100 percent on nine attempts.Senior Kylie Bretz-Hoskins went 100 percent on 11 serves with an ace. Juniors Brooke Schaefer and Quincy Stull each went six-for-six from behind the line.

Junior Emoree Lousberg served for 12 points. She served 16 times with a single error and added one in the ace column.

Back at the net on defense, Bornhoft led her team in blocks with four total. She put up two solo and two assisted blocks. Bretz-Hoskins and Quincy Stull each added two total blocks.

Schaefer led the Lady Wildcats' back row efforts with 11 digs and 26 serve receives. She made just two errors between the two categories.

The Lady Wildcats were scheduled to play Peetz on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at home. Results of that game had not been determined as of press time.

On Thursday, Sept. 19, the team is set for a league battle against Weldon Valley beginning with junior varsity at 4 p.m.

The Lady Wildcats will then take a week off before hosting the Lone Star Lady Longhorns on Thursday, Sept. 26. That match is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
