The Fleming Lady Wildcats traveled to Sterling last weekend where they took part in the Northeastern Junior College Volleyball Tournament. The local squad swept their first two matches of the day before falling to the Merino Lady Rams in four sets.
Victory number one of the day came against the Holyoke Lady Dragons, where Fleming swept 25-8, 25-19 and 28-26.
Junior Ciana Lousberg put up leading numbers in several categories in the match. She earned a double-double with the team high 18 kills and 10 digs. She also led in aces with five and serving 100 percent for the contest.
Junior Ashley Bornhoft followed in kills also hitting double digits with 10. Junior Quincy Stull added another seven kills for the Wildcats.
Senior Kylie Bretz-Hoskins and sophomore Hadley Stull followed Ciana Lousberg in aces with two apiece. Stull served for 14 points in the match; Bretz-Hoskins for nine.
Bornhoft put up Fleming's best blocking efforts at the net with two. She split those with one assisted and one solo.
Junior Brooke Schaefer also earned a double-double from her position in the back row. She contributed 13 digs and received 16 serves.
Victory number two of the day came against the Arickaree Lady Bison. The Lady Wildcats swept that match 25-11, 25-19 and 25-13.
Bornhoft and Ciana Lousberg again led the Wildcats' attacking game. This time Bornhoft put down the team high 14 kills and Lousberg added 10.
Sophomore Hayley Chamberlain led behind the serving line with four aces. Schaefer and Ciana Lousberg served 100 percent in the match.
Bornhoft also let her team in blocks with three. She put up two solo blocks and one assisted. Bretz-Hoskins and Quincy Stull added two assisted blocks apiece.
Hadley Stull put up a leading contribution from the back row with the team high nine digs in addition to 11 serve receives. Schaefer led the team on serve receive with 18 while adding seven digs from the back row.
Ciana Lousberg and Chamberlain split setting duties. Ciana Lousberg put up 14 assists and Chamberlain 11.
In the third and final match of the day, the Lady Wildcats took top-ranked Merino Lady Rams to four sets. Fleming won set one 25-22, but fell in sets two through four, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-10.
The Lady Wildcat back row stepped up against a hard-hitting Merino squad. Three Lady Wildcats earned double digits in defensive digs with zero errors. Schaefer led with 24; Chamberlain and Lousberg followed with 12 and 11, respectively.
Three Lady Wildcats also hit double digits on serve receive. Schaefer again led the team with 29 receives. Hadley Stull added 23 and Emoree Lousberg put up 12.
Bretz-Hoskins and Quincy Stull led the team at the net in blocks with three assisted apiece.
Bornhoft made the leading attacking contribution from the front row with 16 kills. Quincy Stull followed with eight.
The Lady Wildcats traveled to Sedgwick County on Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wiggins on Thursday, Sept. 5 to face off with the Lady Cougars and the Lady Tigers. Results of the contests were not available as of time. Watch next week's edition of the Herald for reports on those matches.
On Thursday, Sept. 12, the team is scheduled to travel to Briggsdale to face off with the Lady Falcons. That match is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
