Joe Woodside

Joe Frank Woodside passed away peacefully in Haxtun on Monday, Aug. 19 at the age of 87.

Joe was born on Feb. 14 1937 to Oakley and Mabel (Tilman) Woodside in McKenzie, Tenn.

Joe attended Fulton High School in Fulton, Kent. After graduation, he went on to attend Murray State University, in Murray Kent.

In 1958 Joe enlisted in the United States Army where he served with the Army Security Agency, as a communications expert. Joe served the until 1963, spending most of his service time in Germany.

After returning home to Fulton, Kent., Joe worked in several branches of the Freely Loan and Thrift Company in Fulton, Union City, Tenn. and Mt Vernon, Ill.

Joe also worked for the First National Bank in Mt. Vernon.

When relocating to Colorado, he worked for John Castel at Tanner & CO in Sterling. Joe also managed an apartment building and did tax returns on the side, where he began building up his tax clientele in the Sterling and surrounding areas. Many of those clients have been with Joe for over 40 years.

While in Sterling, Joe met his wife, Sharon Hinde. Sharon and Joe were married March 6, 1979. Together they worked side by side in their business, J. Woodside Accounting, Inc., having served hundreds of clients, in both the Haxtun and Sterling offices over the last 40 years.

Joe always said he would never retire and over the last year he continued to come to the office every day, even if it was just part-time. He enjoyed serving his clients, working with Sharon and training son Joel to continue with the family business. It was important to Joe to continue the J. Woodside Accounting services going forward.

Joe loved to read, play gin rummy and chess. Joe and his son DeWayne even found a way to be able to play chess online, though they were miles apart. Almost every day they would playfully strategize against one another while playing the online chess game together. Joe also enjoyed traveling with Sharon and the family, sitting on his deck and admiring the flowers and for many years he enjoyed playing golf, tennis and taking walks.

Joe always had a smile and enjoyed visiting with people he would run into during the day, whether it be his clients at the office, friends and family or a friendly face while he was out and about. His day usually always included a scratch off lottery ticket or two and of course Beer:30!

Joe was a member of the Prairie Home Baptist Church in Haxtun where he attended regularly and enjoyed Sunday School and Bible Studies. He was also a lifetime Member of the Sterling Elks club.

Joe is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon (Hinde) Woodside, Haxtun; son Dewayne Woodside and wife Shelby and granddaughters Jessie and Cloe and grandson Gabriel, all of Oklahoma City; son John Woodside and fiancé Natalia and grandson Danali, all of Dallas, Texas; son Joel Woodside and granddaughter Faith and grandson Bryden, all of Haxtun.
