1. Please give some background/history on the opening/purchase of your business.

Better Forage has a family history dating back to 1888 when "Grandpa Al" migrated from Sweden to the plains of Colorado as a potato farmer. Over the years, the company has evolved through multiple generations. In 2007, Toby Anderson, a fifth generation descendant, initially ventured into the silage covering business as a side gig at a dairy south of Holyoke. In 2011, Jared Anderson, another fifth generation descendant, started installing and renting hay tarps, also as a side gig, for a customer in Crook. Eventually, they merged their businesses under the name Mountain West Tarp & Cover. In 2020, Mountain West Tarp & Cover expanded its offerings by welcoming Kyle Wilson, a sixth generation descendant, who previously owned a company named Better Forage, specializing in products and consulting services for the forage industry. In 2022, Mountain West Tarp & Cover officially rebranded under the name Better Forage and re-centered its focus on providing products and services for forage harvesting and post harvesting activities.

2. What are the owners/key players in your building?

Toby Anderson is the owner of Better Forage. Key players in the business include Kyle Wilson, who serves as our sales manager and general manager, and Ben Chamberlin, who is our hay tarping and crew manager.

3. What services/products do you offer your customers?

We offer a quality selection of products and services for baling, chopping, harvesting and covering hay and silages. Our silage products include silage plastic, inoculant, tire sidewalls, applicator and silage and grain bags. Similarly, our hay products feature hay tarps, twine/net wrap and hay preserver. In addition to our signature services of silage covering and hay tarp rental/installations we provide silage analysis, tire clean up, cutting and repurposing.

4. Where are you located and how can a customer find/contact you?

Our main office is located in Haxtun. Although our typical services area extends to a three hour radius of northeastern Colorado, we ship products nationwide and frequently find our products within the 10 state region.
