It’s mid-July and that means Haxtun’s Old-Fashioned Saturday Night is just around the corner. The 37th annual event is slated for Saturday, July 20 in downtown Haxtun and promises the popular car show as well as town-wide garage sales, poker run, vendors, burnout competition, valve cover races, beer garden and more.
Saturday morning’s activities kick off with town-wide garage sales. Thus far, more than 33 locations have registered to host garage sales around Haxtun. Maps for garage sale sites will be available the day of at Haxtun Super’s and Zip Trip.

The Poker Run will take off from the Haxtun Fire Hall at 11 a.m. Riders should be registered by 10:45 a.m. The run will begin in Haxtun and take riders throughout northeastern Colorado before the final card is drawn back in Haxtun. Prizes will be awarded for the top three bikers.
Proceeds from this year’s run will benefit the Haxtun Park Disk Golf Course.
Action downtown kicks off in the afternoon featuring vendors, tricycle races and valve cover races. Registration for valve cover races as well as vendor registration can be found at visit welcometohaxtun.com.
Official rules for the Valve Cover races are available on the Old-Fashioned Saturday Night Facebook page and at town hall. The self-built, unmotorized cars will race on a track from Northeastern Junior College.
Car show registration begins at 2 p.m. in downtown Haxtun. The car show is set for 3-7 p.m. and will feature awards for People’s Choice, Rodder’s Choice, Mayor’s Choice and Best Golf Cart. This year’s awards will be custom created and donated by Gordon’s Upholstery. All types of vehicles are welcome.
“We are asking for pre-registrations so we can get a rough estimate of how many cars we will have,” said Chamber Director Jessica Ayala. However, same day registration will be available.
The Haxtun Fire Hall will be the site for the annual burnout competition at 6:30 p.m. The burn out boasts $1,000 in prizes and is sponsored by Wilson’s Repair, Haxtun Locker Plant, SmokeTrails, S&W Auto Supply-Napa and G&S Sandblasting and Fabrication. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top five winners, trophies will be given to the top three. Registration for the event will be at the Haxtun Fire Hall.
Throughout the event, Miss Dottie VonVelvet and the Luscious Ladies plan to host a Queen of the Car Show Contest. Entrants are asked to arrive hair and make-up ready and dressed in their favorite era. Those participating in the contest should register at the same location as the car show registration no later than 5 p.m.
Winners will be picked based on best dressed, stage presence and how well questions are answered. Each entrant will be provided a question at check in to prepare their answers. Titles and prizes will be awarded to the top three in each category including Queen and Princess. The queen contest is ages 15 and up and Princess is 14 and under. Queen of the Car Show, Princess of the Car Show and car show awards will be announced immediately after the burn out.
Other activities include kiddie land from 4-8 p.m., the annual hog roast sponsored by the Haxtun Volunteer Fireman from 5-7 p.m. and beer garden with a DJ from 4 p.m. to midnight.
