United States Senator Michael Bennet, accompanied by Crestina Martinez, Colorado State Director for Rural Development, recently visited Haxtun Health to tour the campus and witness the progress of the Main Street Clinic project. Senator Bennet's visit highlights his commitment to Eastern Colorado, demonstrated by his push for $2 million in Congressionally Directed Spendingto support the project. The CDS funds, distributed through the USDA, aim to support critical community projects, including healthcare in rural areas.
During the visit, the Senator was joined by several staff members and local and state representatives from the United States Department of Agriculture. Haxtun Health's Chief Executive Officer, Dewane Pace, and Chief Community Relations Officer, Julia Biesemeier, led the tour, showcasing the project's progress and discussing the logistics and development since its inception.
The tour included a walkthrough of the Main Street Clinic site, where Senator Bennet and Martinez observed the ongoing work and the extensive range of services that will be offered in the new facility. He expressed his admiration for the unique nature of the clinic in Northeast Colorado, particularly noting the importance of the behavioral health service line offered at the organization.
The visit aimed to provide the Senator with an in-person understanding of the rural healthcare setting. In addition to the Main Street Clinic project, the tour included Haxtun Health's main campus hospital, extended care unit and specialty clinic.
