Phillips County turnout 52.04% in election

Phillips County electors cast 1,443 ballots in Colorado’s Primary Election on June 25. With 2,772 active registered voters, that’s a 52.04 percent voter turnout.

Challengers to Republican incumbents running for re-election gave voters a choice in the races for the District 2 Commissioner and the Sheriff. Although the incumbents had the most votes and will therefore move on to the General Election, the challengers each received a respectable number of votes.

The sheriff’s race was won by only 36 votes of the 1,166 total. Sheriff Michael Beard received 601 votes or 51.54 percent. Write-in candidate, Darrell Smith, received 565 votes, or 48.46 percent.

District 2 Commissioner, Garold Roberts, received 821 votes, or 67.41 percent of the 1,218 total votes. Dylon Keith Daniel received 397 votes, or 32.59 percent.

District 3 County Commissioner, Tom Timm, was unopposed and therefore received 100 percent of the 1,072 total votes.

There were no candidates on the Democratic ballot for County Sheriff or the District 2 and District 3 County Commissioner seats.

All eligible voters vote for all commissioners, not just the district in which they reside.

Counts cited above were as of 9:05 p.m. on June 25 and as reported that same night by the Phillips County Clerk’s office to the Secretary of State’s office.

Vote counts are considered unofficial by the Secretary of State’s Office until the entire election process is closed out later this month.

Results of the primary election for federal and state offices can be found on page 12.
