Haxtun's Kaiden Schelling signed a letter of intent to extend his baseball career with Midland University in Fremont, Neb. next fall. The 2024 graduate was a key player in winning Haxtun High School's first ever State title baseball title his junior year. He played four seasons for the Bulldogs and several with the Buckley Bombers throughout his time in high school.
According to stats on MaxPreps, Schelling had a .433 batting average his senior season along with a .548 on base percentage. He registered 29 hits, 20 runs batted in and 36 runs this year.
Schelling was named All-Conference at the conclusion of this year's season. The Bulldogs went 15-6 in 2024, finishing the season with a 1A Regional showing. He was also an All-Conference player on last year's State Championship team as a junior.
"Kaiden is a talented and athletic kid that helped lead his team to an amazing season his junior year with lots of individual success on the field as well," said Midland University Baseball Coach Cooper Morrison. "Kaiden will be able to provide a lot to our program."
Throughout his time on the baseball diamond for the Bulldogs, Schelling boasts a .528 on base percentage and a .344 batting average. He tallied 66 total hits, 56 RBIs and 97 runs. Schelling earned a .911 fielding percentage throughout high school.
On the mound, Kaiden faced 507 batters throughout his four years with the Bulldogs. Of those, he registered 130 strikeouts. This season alone, Schelling struck out 46 of 156 batters.
"Kaiden will show up every day with great attitude and effort and push himself and his teammates to get better," Cooper added. "I could see Kaiden mixing in the middle infield. As said, he's an athletic kid so I wouldn't be surprised if he was able to pick up another position."
While playing baseball for the Midland University warriors, Schelling plans to study elementary education. He is the son of Don and Kirstin Schelling, Haxtun.
