Annexation approved for future storage units

The Haxtun Town Council met in a special meeting on Monday night, May 20 for a public hearing regarding the CB & Pods Annexation. Hearing no concerns, the proper motions followed to approve the annexation.

The one acre of land on the west edge of Haxtun has been annexed into Haxtun city limits following a series of motions as required by Colorado State Statue. The CB & Pods annexation includes an acre of land on the south side of Highway 6, west of the current Better Forage site, also just west of Dollar General.

In approving the annexation, the Council also approved its zoning, which was designated as B-A, business district.

According to property owner Caleb Andersen, who owns the lot along with Braden Blochowitz, plans are to construct storage units on the property. Andersen said the units will be pre-fabricated self-storage units. Hopes are, he added, to break ground this fall.

For a complete breakdown of the annexation and the property’s zoning, see full ordinance and resolutions inside this week’s issue of the Herald.

At the end of the special meeting, council members entered into a work session. During that, the Council received a swimming pool update from Superintendent Ron Carpenter and discussed the Salvador economic incentive application.

According to Carpenter, finish work continues on the pool with the goal of opening in June. As for the incentive application, the Council reviewed cost breakdown numbers and plan to add the subject to the June meeting agenda.
