What can we reason but from what we know? -Alexander Pope
What a difference a day makes
A popular song starts with the works “what a difference a day makes.” It must have been written by someone living in Morgan County!
The other day I was excited over light snow falling! Snow makes water and water makes grass, grass makes me and the cows, happy!
The previous day was hot and so dry that son David and I discussed whether we should be running our irrigation well on the drying hay field. Luckily, we decided not to.
Today, after that very wet snow, the last thing we need is more water! That light and wet snow left lots of puddles of water everywhere and all the moisture is soaking into the bone dry hay fields and pastures! Life is Good!
I can’t imagine the boredom associated with life in Missouri or Arkansas, where too much moisture rather than not enough is a continual problem. Hopefully that will not be the case here as it’s starting to rain! A normally welcomed beautiful soft steady rain.
As I sit in my sunroom rocking chair watching more puddles form I remember the song those Missouri or Arkansas people would sing. “Rain Rain Go Away … Come Again Another Day.” Do you think global warming is coming to Colorado? Are we going to become a humid overcast area and have to sing that song?
Nah, this is Colorado. Wait a bit and the weather will change. Personally, I like the snow. It’s behavior is mostly predictable and we can prepare for it. Thunderstorms not so much.
Anyway, we have moisture in Brush! Grass will grow, so will the calves nursing their mothers and … we’ll make our land payment!
