Chamber of Commerce announces Bornhofts as Grand Marshals

Cork and Trilla Bornhoft have been selected to serve as the 2024 Haxtun Corn Festival Grand Marshals. The Haxtun Chamber of Commerce recently announced the Grand Marshal selection along with this year's theme. Grand marshal and theme selections are chosen by Chamber of Commerce members. The 2024 Corn Festival theme is "Harvesting Memories."

Cork and Trilla Bornhoft, who celebrate 62 years of marriage this year, are long-time Haxtun residents. Cork was drafted into the United States Army in 1962 and following a two year enlistment, settled in Trilla's hometown, Haxtun, where the couple raised their four children. Cork began a career with the State of Colorado in 1969 while maintaining and living at the Daily rest area until it closed. At that time, he transferred to the State of Colorado Highway Department where he maintained highways 6 and 59. After 33 years with the State, Cork retired and spent 17 years working part-time with the Town of Haxtun, mowing the park, ball field and other areas.

Trilla worked at a preschool operated by the Haxtun Hospital for a short time before her youngest child was born. Once he started school, Trilla served as a receptionist for Dr. Ridenour and later Dr. Ley. When the Haxtun Hospital took over the medical clinic, Trilla worked there until retirement in 2012. Since retiring, she has served in several part-time capacities at the hospital, town hall and credit union.

Cork was a member of the Haxtun Volunteer Fire Department and Trilla served as a Siren for many years. The both are beloved Bulldog supporters and earned the Super Booster Award in 2022. Now the two can be found following their 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren at their various activities.
