It’s post season and the Haxtun Bulldogs have secured a spot in the second round of District baseball action slated for later this week in Fort Morgan. The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 13-4 overall record and number two in league standings.
The Bulldogs hosted Prairie in the first round of Districts on Tuesday afternoon. Haxtun dominated the contest, taking a 20-6 win in just five innings. The win advances the Bulldog team to the next round of playoffs, which will put them in a contest against Merino on Friday, May 3 at 11 noon in Fort Morgan.
Stats from the Tuesday afternoon contest with Prairie were not yet available as of Wednesday morning’s press deadline.
Merino entered the tournament as the number three seed just behind Haxtun. They took down number seven seeded Peetz on Tuesday to advance in play. The Rams from Merino are currently 13-6 overall.
The Bulldogs met up with Merino in mid-April at the home of the Rams. In the double-header, Merino took game one, 6-5, and the Bulldogs earned a 9-6 win in game two. The loss to the Rams is the only 1A loss for the Bulldogs this season.
On the other side of the District bracket, Akron, the number one seeded team, will face Otis prior to the Haxtun/Merino match up. The winner between the second round contests will advance to the District Championship slated for 1 p.m. in Fort Morgan on Friday.
