Haxtun senior Samantha Seger signed a letter of intent to play softball at Lamar Community College next fall. Seger sealed her commitment with friends and family by her side in signing ceremonies at Haxtun High School last week. Seger played four softball seasons with the Lady Dragons in Holyoke.
"Samantha has a great personality and loves the game of softball, said Greg Cary, Softball Coach of the Lamar Lady Running Lopes. "She will bring that personality with her and also her athleticism to help us offensively."
In her time with the Lady Dragons, Seger earned a .450 batting average and a .530 on base percentage. She registered 77 hits, 38 runs batted in and 79 runs. Seger also boasts a .904 fielding percentage.
In her high school career, Seger played first base primarily but also spent some time on third base.
As a senior, Seger helped lead her team to the 2023 3A State Softball Tournament. The Lady Dragons finished with an overall 12-12 record.
"She will compete for a spot in the infield and give us whatever she can," Cary said of Seger's position on the college team next year. He added that qualities that will make her an asset to the Lopes team include her energy, passion and competitiveness on the field.
While playing for the Lopes, Seger plans to study nursing in hopes of becoming a hospice nurse.
Seger is the daughter of Dustin and Sharon Seger and the granddaughter of Darwin and Ellie Jeffers and Leland and Pauline Seger, all of Haxtun.
