Fleming Schools purchases software to safeguard from unauthorized access

Teacher contracts are approved and agreements have been granted for classified staff members at Fleming Schools for 2024-25. The local Board of Education finalized preparations for next school year in a short, one-hour meeting on Thursday, April 11. In addition to planning ahead for the coming year, the Board also approved the purchase of a network system to help monitor computer and network use.

Last week’s meeting opened with a staff reports, including information from Superintendent Steve McCracken. He told board members the schools Wi-Fi password was recently changed to help limit the use of the District’s broadband for non-school users.

To go along with that, later in action items, board members approved the purchase of a program called The Insight/Trend Micro. McCracken said the program will help monitor the District’s network system, computers, Wi-Fi and email accounts.

“And protect them from malicious activity and unauthorized access,” he said.

The cost of the program totaled $5,969.50.

Before approving a list of action items to set the Board approved the consent agenda including the following list of items: to ratify the decision to cancel school on March 25 due to blowing snow; to approve part-time employment in the kitchen for Cia Stull; to accept Lisa Chintala’s resignation after 20 years of service; and to approve junior high track volunteer coaches Sean Fritzler, Karin Williamson and Lucas Fehringer.
