An hour-long March meeting of the Frenchman Board of Education focused on preparing for the upcoming year. Following administration reports, board members voted to approve Principal Kortney Firme’s contract and salary schedules for Fleming in 2024-25.
In her report to the Board, Firme gave an update on spring sporting events, field trips, concerts and contests. She said plans are in the works for end-of-year assessments. Looking forward, the Principal is focusing on the student handbook and registration, which will be online for next year.
Superintendent Steve McCracken said the District canceled the junior varsity baseball schedule and three students are participating at Caliche this season. He also talked about two bills regarding conceal carry in schools that are making their way through the legislative process at the Capitol. Fleming Schools is one of several in Colorado which arms staff on school premises.
In approving the consent agenda, board members approved canceling school on March 7 due to hazardous driving conditions.
Later, in action items, board members voted to approve Firme’s contract for the coming year. No other changes were made to her contract, which is renewed on a year-to-year basis, McCracken said in later follow up.
The Board also voted to approve the 2024-25 certified and classified salary schedules.
“The base salary on our certified salary schedule was increased from $38,000 to $40,000,” McCracken said. “The classified schedule was not changed. We amended the classified schedule in January as result of the increase in the minimum wage for Colorado.”
The 2024-25 Extra Duty Salary Schedule was also listed on the agenda under action items but was tabled until April.
“We want to add assistant junior high coaches salary, cross country and E-sports coach’s salary,” said McCracken.
The next Frenchman Board of Education meeting is slated for April 11 at 7 p.m. in the Fleming School/Community Library.
