Doris Jean (Schaefer) Scott passed away in Haxtun on March 3, 2024 at the age of 86.
Doris was born on Aug. 27, 1937 in Sterling to Ben and Martha (Brekel) Schaefer.
Doris graduated from Fleming High School in 1955. She received her nursing degree and became an RN in 1956. She married Wayne Scott on Aug. 24, 1957 in St. Peters.
After working as a nurse for a few years, Doris began her career in the Post Office in 1969. She was the Post Master of Holyoke when she retired in 1992. In 1994 Doris started her own vending business known as "Bubbles, Etc." She was crowned Mrs. Colorado in 1968. Doris also spent her life on the family farm raising crops and cattle.
Doris is survived by her husband Wayne; children Julie and husband John McGrath and Dona and husband Jack Willmeth; grandchildren Brandon and Taylor Abraham, Jake, Jessica and Kent and Dawson Willmeth. She is also survived by her sister Mary Lu Moline, Aurora.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Martha Schaefer, and daughter Terrie Scott Abraham.
Funeral services were held on March 8 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Haxtun. Father Jerry Rohr officiated the service. Baucke Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
