Christina Gerk

Christina Lynn (Teter) Gerk went home to be with Jesus on Feb. 23, 2024.

Chris was born in Brush on July 26, 1963 to Leroy and Bonnie Teter. She grew up in Brush and graduated from Brush High School.

Chris was a good worker. She worked at the Brush Locker while in school. She helped out in the office at the family owned business, Teter Oilfield Construction. She earned her cosmetology degree from Northeastern Junior College and started her own barber shop at Livestock Exchange, Inc. in Brush. She met Brad Gerk and started dating him in 1992 when she moved to Sterling to begin working in the office at the Excel Beef Plant.

Chris and Brad were joined in marriage on Aug. 26,1993 and moved to Holyoke at the same time. She soon went back to cosmetology at Headquarters in Holyoke. While working at Headquarters, she had a customer who helped manage Tennant Funeral Home in Holyoke and Haxtun who asked her if she would be willing to style hair at the funeral home. Upon doing that, Chris decided that she wanted to become a funeral director/embalmer. She started taking mortuary science classes online and began working for Tennant Funeral Home in 2003.

In 2004, Chris and Brad purchased the funeral homes in Holyoke and Haxtun from Tennant. Chris thoroughly enjoyed serving the families at such a difficult time in their lives and she excelled as an embalmer and funeral director. In 2014 Chris decided to sell the funeral homes and return to being a homemaker. However, that did not last long, she soon took a part time job at Brandt Chiropractic Clinic and worked there until her health made her unable to do so.

In 1989, Chris was blessed with the birth of her first daughter, Talia Mayhugh. She was blessed again in 1994 with the birth of daughter, Chandler Gerk. In 1998, she was doubly blessed with twin daughters Jacklyn and Katelyn Gerk.

Chris was an incredible caregiver, helping her family with medical appointments and many other things. She enjoyed working in the yard and her flower garden. She also enjoyed crafting and working on projects. Chris and Brad enjoyed traveling, going to the lake and most of all being together.

Chris is survived by her husband Brad Gerk; daughters Talia Mayhugh and fiancé Cris Charley; Chandler Gerk, Jacklyn Gerk and Katelyn Gerk; grandchildren Christian Mayhugh and Cristoffer Charley; father Leroy Teter; mother-in-law Elaine Gerk; brother Mark Teter; sister Sara Evans; brothers-in-law Mark and wife Edwina Gerk and Casey and wife Hollie Gerk; as well as and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins.

Chris is preceded in death by her mother Bonnie Teter, father-in-law Robert Gerk, paternal grandparents Gayle and Virginia Teter, maternal grandparents Virgil and Phylis Schilz; and sister-in-law, Lynne Teter.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Holyoke with interment at Holyoke Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brad Gerk, 37451 CR 8, Holyoke, CO 80734.
