Wildcats take home court win over Warriors

The Fleming Wildcats added a league victory over the Weldon Valley Warriors last Friday at Fleming. The team suffered a loss to the Genoa-Hugo Pirates the following night at home.

Fleming took control over Weldon Valley in the first quarter on Friday night and maintained the lead throughout the game. They finished with an 8-point upper hand, 40-32.

Senior David Betley led the Wildcats in points, rebounds and steals with 11, seven and four, respectively. Freshmen Dane Cunningham and Treyson Kirkwood followed on the scoreboard with eight and six, respectively.

On Saturday night, the Wildcats fell to the Pirates of Genoa-Hugo/Karval, 50-44. Fleming trailed by one after the first quarter and by 11 at halftime.

The Wildcats out scored the Pirates in both quarters of the second half, but couldn't make up the deficit by the final horn.

Betley and junior Travis Johnson hit double digits on the scoreboard for the night. Betley led with 19 points; Johnson followed with 12.

Betley also led his team in rebounds with 11. Senior Will Bornhoft followed with seven.

The Wildcats are scheduled to host McClave on Friday this week with JV boys' action beginning at 4 p.m.

On Saturday, Fleming travels to Flatirons Academy in Westminster. Games that day are set to start at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are only available online.
