The Haxtun Bulldogs hit the road for Friday/Saturday action last weekend as the team took on Caliche and Wray in two Lower Platte League contests. With just two weeks left of the regular season, the Bulldogs are slated to take on Akron at home this week and Merino on the road the following week.
Haxtun traveled to the home of the Buffs Friday night in the Bulldogs second outing with Caliche this season. The home team jumped to a six point advantage in the first quarter but the Bulldogs played tight throughout the second to find themselves down by just single digits at half time.
Haxtun had stellar third and fourth quarters, putting 16 points on the board in the third and 13 in the fourth putting the game on the line and down to the wire but the Buffs were just too much to handle. Caliche nabbed a 56-52 win.
Sophomore Chase Goddard led the Bulldogs with 10 points on Friday night. Sophomore Coin Cone and junior Tate Michael each scored six. Seniors Mason Bornhoft, Keegan Colglazier and Ryland Wolff each added four.
The following night Haxtun hit the road to take on the Eagles in Wray. The Eagles hit the court, taking an early advantage over the Bulldogs and never looked back. Wray won, 73-38.
Goddard again led his team with 10 points. Cone, Wolff and sophomore Jaxsen Schram each put up six followed by Colglazier, Bornhoft and Michael, all with four points.
Friday night action will pit the Haxtun Bulldogs in a contest with Akron in the final regular season home game. The night will also mark parents’ night for winter athletes.
The following week, Haxtun is set to travel to take on the Rams in Merino. That game will conclude regular season play.
