The Legion Hall will be opened Saturday evening this week for roller skating. John Oxford of Brush will bring his equipment here and expects to operate the rink every Saturday night in the future. Time: 8 to 10:30 o'clock. Admission: 25 cents.
Paoli News - Glenn Brundige and Monroe Bell went to Denver last Saturday where they expected to attend the stock show.

Hospital news: Mr. and Mrs. Orville Harms are the parents of a seven-and-a-half pound son, born Sunday morning. The hospital wishes to acknowledge the gift of a bushel of grapefruit sent by Mr. and Mrs. Rex Meakins from their farm at Alamo, Texas and also to thank Mrs. Walter Bauer for some nursery supplies.
Fleming News - The Horizon Desire was repeated and six members answered roll call with their pet peeve. Mrs. Barkley put $2 into the club treasury that was paid to the girls for washing dishes at the men's oyster supper. Girls who did the work were Dianne Barkley, Patricia Norris and Shirley Carwin.
A pioneer of the Haxtun community, Charles W. Molander, passed away Saturday following an extended illness, the last month of which was spent in the hospital. He was born in Ostergotland, Sweden and came to the Haxtun community from Nebraska in 1892.

With the acceptance of a $40,000 check from the Heginbotham Trust in Holyoke, the Haxtun Medicine Center building is now paid for and is free of debt. The final check was presented by Ray Crosby, chairman of the trust on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Pictured with Crosby: Rick Ensminger, Bob Anderson, Marv Switzer, Jack Falk and Dr. Jim Ley.

Earthquake takes local family by surprise: Todd and Cammie Smith, along with their three-year-old son Jeremiah, were in Anaheim on vacation at the time of the Jan. 17 quake.

Fleming fifth graders presented the play "Miss Louisa and the Outlaws" on Friday. Cast: Mike Wolever, Clay Unrein, Katie Comstock, Andrew Dreier, Sarah Heaton, Joel Klug, David Pappan, Justin Ride, Rebecca Unrein and Brandon Wernsman.
Busy Hands preschool students Bailey Cox, Mallory Green and Trisha Klinzmann are being read a story by the new computer that the school recently received.

Jessie Bornhoft, Haxtun, fourth grader, took third place in the Holyoke Jolly dozen family community. Education groups annual art an essay contest. Jolly dozen members delivered the third place award to Bornhoft in her classroom last week.
Haxtun Elementary and Junior High School released honor roll lists for the first semester of the 2013-14 school year. Superintendent's honor roll students with a GPA of 3.8 and above are: fourth grade, Ella Coffin, Erika Meakins, Cash Nab, Brooklyn Plumb, Allie Thompson and Danielle Wilkening; fifth grade, Tanley Andersen, Dustin Anderson, Riley Lundgren, Ryan Tempel and Isabella Tori; sixth grade, Emma Duvall, Cody Pennington and Emily Trejo; seventh grade, McKenna Andersen, Braden Anderson, Drew Coffin, Dawson Knode, Elijah, Meakins and Riley Thompson; eighth grade, Kaitlyn Anderson, Emily Atkins, Destri Johnson, Briauna McFadden and Ryan Schaeffer.
