The Haxtun Bulldogs met up with Sedgwick County and Otis on their home hardwood last weekend. Haxtun hosted the Cougars from Sedgwick County on Friday and Saturday welcomed the Bulldogs from Otis.
Friday night action against the fellow Lower Platte league opponent Sedgwick County Cougars was a nail bitter, coming down to the final seconds and free throws. Sedgwick County pulled away with a two-point win, 48-46.
Stats from Head Coach Jayden Stieb lists two Bulldogs with double-digits in the scoring department. Junior Ryland Wolff racked up 13 points. Following close behind was sophomore Chase Goddard, who added 12. Senior Mason Bornhoft scored nine points and junior Tate Michael added five. Sophomores Kanin Koberstein put up three points while Colin Cone and Jaxsen Schram each added two.
The following night pitted the Bulldogs from Haxtun against the Bulldogs from Otis.
Otis put up a 22 point lead in the first half. The Bulldogs answered back in the third and fourth quarters with a combined 32 points but Otis' first half advantage was too much to come back from giving the visiting Bulldogs a 71-49 win.
For the second night in a row, Wolff led his team on offense with 14 points. Cone contributed 12 and Goddard added eight. Sophomores Carter Lock and Koberstein each nailed a three while Schram, Bornhoft and freshman Madden Larsen all added two points to the board.
This week Haxtun is set to play at home again, this time against the Dragons from Holyoke. The Dragons are currently 6-4 overall; one of those wins against the Bulldogs in early January.
After that, the Bulldogs are set to travel to Briggsdale on Jan. 30 and Caliche on Feb. 2. Three games remain on the schedule thereafter.
