They did it - the Lady Bulldogs notched a win on the basketball court at home Friday night as they captured a 71-27 win over Peetz. The entire team saw action on the court with three girls racking up double digits in the scoring column.
Haxtun jumped to an early advantage over the Peetz Lady Bulldogs in front of a home crowd. The home team held the lead throughout the entire game, rolling to a 44-point win for the first time this season.
Senior Cassidy Goddard connected with eight field goals and a free throw for the team high of 17. Juniors Emily Anderson and Jayleigh Bullard each added 10 points to the board. Anderson made four field goals and two free throws for her 10; Bullard connected with five shots inside the paint for hers. Sophomores Lilly Lemesany and Katiegh Cody along with senior Kirsta Dishman all scored eight points. Sophomore Reagan Jones added six followed by senior Heily Avery with four.
Bullard earned a double-double against Peetz, pulling down 13 rebounds. She nabbed eight on offense and five on defense to lead her team in under the basket. Junior Kelsie Hadeen registered eight rebounds followed by Anderson, Goddard and junior Hadley Feik, each with six. Dishman, freshman Emma Lemesany and Avery all pulled down four.
Dishman and Bullard tallied four assists a piece. Anderson lead in steals with four.
Saturday's cold temperatures and snowfall in northeastern Colorado postponed a match up with the Haxtun Bulldogs and Yuma Outlaws to Tuesday of this week.
The Lady Bulldogs took on Yuma on the Lady Outlaws home court on Jan. 16. Haxtun took an early one-point advantage in the first quarter and added another six in the second to keep the game close at the half. The Outlaws amped up the pressure in the second half, eventually nabbing a 40-32 win over the Lady Bulldogs.
Stats for the Yuma contest were not yet available as of Wednesday morning's press deadline.
The Bulldogs are slated to host two matchups this weekend beginning with a Friday night contest against the Sedgwick County Lady Cougars. The Lady Cougars are currently 7-1. On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs are set to face Otis. Those Lady Bulldogs are 2-5.
