Samuel Dean Wolever, Sr. passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024 in Haxtun.
Samuel was born July 14, 1956 in Sterling to Wesley and Lois (Dillon) Wolever. Sam spent his childhood in Merino on the family farm. He attended high school in Merino and graduated in 1976 from Merino High School.
Sam met Melisa Dodd and they were married on Aug. 24, 1978, in Fleming. They made their home in Fleming where they had five children together. He worked at Sterling Brick Company, The Sugar Factory in Sterling, Logan County Road and Bridge and most recently CHS in Fleming.
He served his community for over 40 years with the Fleming Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter and an EMT and ran for other local EMS services in his 40-plus years of service. He was always first to answer the call, even after "retirement" he still was first to respond, at every meeting and training. This work ethic and want to serve has carried over into his children. They all decided to follow in his footsteps and to serve for the fire department or EMS at some point in their life and some still do.
Sam is survived by his mother Lois (Dillon) Wolever; sons John Wolever and wife Alana, Sidney, Neb., Mike Wolever and wife Kay, Juniata, Neb., Ben Wolever and wife Kim of Malvern, Ark., and Sam Wolever Jr., Fleming; grandchildren Cheyenne and husband Joshua, Sterling, Faith and Mason, both Sterling, Tymberlie, Sidney, Brady, Macie and Dakota, all of Juniata, and Matthew, Alexia and Brayden, all of Malvern; brothers David and wife Lisa Wolever, Sterling, and Tim and wife Pat Wolever, Sterling; great-granddaughters Ruby and Amara; a great-grandson on the way; as well as numerous other family members.
He is proceeded in death by his wife Melisa Wolever; daughter Melaine Wolever; father Wesley Wolever; and brother Rick Wolever.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sam Wolever Sr. at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1046, Sterling, CO 80751.
Memorial services were held on Jan. 9 at Prairie Home Baptist Church in Haxtun. Burial followed at the Fleming Cemetery.
