Fleming Wildcats finish weekend's play at 1-1

The Fleming Wildcats hosted Arickaree, Gilpin County and Flagler last weekend for a Winter Hoops Tournament. The Wildcats opened with a win over Flagler on Friday, but fell to Arickaree on Saturday.

Friday’s match up with the Flagler Panthers played out fairly even quarter-by-quarter with Fleming trailing by just one at the half. The Wildcats gained the lead in the third, outscoring Flagler by six and tacked another five onto to that lead for a 31-21 victory.

Saturday’s contest against the undefeated Arickaree Bison saw Fleming down 61-36 at the final horn.

Senior David Betley led the Wildcats on the scoreboard in Friday’s contest. He scored 12 points for the home team. Freshman Dane Cunningham followed with nine points.

Junior Travis Johnson led under the basket against Flagler with 10 rebounds. Freshman Conner Marchant followed with seven boards.

Senior Will Bornhoft led in scoring on Saturday night against Arickaree. He tallied 13 points.

Cunningham followed on the scoreboard with eight points. He led in rebounds with five.

The Wildcats hosted Lone Star on Tuesday, Dec. 19. Results of that contest were not available by press time.

The Wildcats will now break for the holidays. They are set to play at Arickaree on Jan. 5 to kickoff the 2024 portion of the season.
