Competition for the Sedgwick County/Fleming wrestlers opened for the week last Tuesday, Dec. 5 in Fleming with a dual against Wiggins.
The boys' team won their dual 54-18; the girls' team won 30-18. Results from wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming in Tuesday's dual are as follows:
126-pound senior Kaiden Schelling defeated Tavon Palmer by fall in 1:00.
132-pound junior Scotty Engle won by forfeit.
138-pound junior Gage Helgoth defeated Reagan Thomas by fall in 3:43.
157-pound senior Trent Wernsman defeated Shawn Hollis by fall in 4:40.
165-pound junior Grant Statz defeated Lukas Opatik by fall in 1:35.
175-pound junior Kale Volkman won by forfeit.
190-pound junior Ryan Davis defeated Riley Thomas by fall in 1:33.
120-pound sophomore Annie Wilson defeated Vaniha Lujan by fall in :36.
130-pound sophomore Autumn Volkman defeated Genecis Acosta by fall in 1:34.
The boys' team traveled to Oxford, Neb., to dual Southern Valley on Thursday, Dec, 7. They stayed the night in Oxford and participated in the Southern Valley Invitational on Friday, Dec. 8.
SCF won Thursday's dual 48-27. Results from wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming are as follows:
Schelling won by forfeit.
Engle won by forfeit.
Helgoth lost to Hayden Lans, 13-8.
Wernsman lost to Sam Bantam by fall.
Statz won by forfeit.
Kale Volkman won by forfeit.
Davis lost to Gabe Grove by fall.
The SCF finished in third place at the Southern Valley Invitational out of 18 teams. Results from wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming in the invitational are as follows:
Schelling placed second in the event. He won by fall over Chris Hock of Bertrand in 0:34 and won by major decision over Dylan Kollmorgen of Hitchcock County, 13-1. In the championship match, Schelling lost to Tyson Freeman of Loomis by decision, 5-3.
132-pound sophomore Coleman Firme lost to Austin Mendoza of Summerland by fall lost to Jaqueb Hoover of Chase County by fall.
Engle placed took first place in the 132-pound division. He won by tech fall over Logan Shriver of Alma, 16-0; defeated Raleigh Hanson of Atwood-Rawlins County HS by tech fall, 16-0; and won the semifinal match by fall over Briggs Hill of Arapahoe in 1:39. The championship match pitted Engle against Phillip Titkemeier of Loomis; he won that match by fall in 0:48.
Helgoth won his opening match by fall over Hunter Jorschumb of Arapahoe in 1:50. He then lost to Carter Auten of Red Cloud/Blue Hill by fall. In the consolation bracket, Helgoth won by fall over Bryan Reyes of Loomis in 3:36 and won by fall over Phoenix Sharp of Alma in 1:30. In his final match of the day, Helgoth lost to Lorance Davis of Franklin by fall.
Wernsman opened with a win by fall over Sully Bantam of Southern Valley in 2:57. He then lost to Clay Bohr of Loomis by fall. In the consolation bracket, Wernsman lost to Scott Hoover of Chase County won by fall.
Statz placed first in the 165-pound division. He won by fall over Steel Marks of Franklin in 0:37; won by fall over AJ Hobbs of Summerland in 0:23; and won by major decision over Fabian Arelin of Chase County, 12-0. In the championship match, Statz won by fall over David Bryner of Sutherland in 1:11.
Volkman lost to Wyatt Seeman of Red Cloud/Blue Hill by fall and lost to Cauy Meyer of Loomis by fall.
Davis lost to Gabe Grove of Southern Valley by fall to open the day. He then won by fall over Brett Woollen of Wilcox-Hildreth in 0:24. In round two of the consolation bracket, Davis lost to Kash Schoff of Loomis by decision, 9-4.
The wrestling team is scheduled to travel to Wray to participate in the Bob Smith Invitational on Dec. 16. This will be their last competition before Christmas break.
The SCF girls' wrestling team traveled to Fort Collins to participate in the Poudre Shooting Stars Invite on Saturday, Dec. 9.
The team finished 14th out of 18 teams after competing against many 4A and 5A schools. Results from wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming are as follows:
Wilson placed fourth. She won by fall over Nancy Jardine of Mead in 3:55 to open the day. She then lost to Carley VanDorin of Berthoud by fall. In the consolation bracket, Wilson won by fall over Maddi Hill of Poudre in 1:48 and won by fall over Grace Wheeler of Poudre in 2:40. In the third place match, Wilson lost to Sky Richards of Liberty Jr/Sr by fall.
Autumn Volkman lost to Brisa Serrano Gamino of Fort Morgan won by fall and Erin Young of Mead by fall.
155-pound sophomore Olivia Stone lost to Carly Zentveld of Severance by fall and lost to Anahi Ortega of Fort Morgan by fall.
The SCF girls are scheduled to travel to Wray to participate in the first annual Marilyn Smith Invitational on Dec. 16. This will be their final competition before Christmas break.
