What can we reason but from what we know? -Alexander Pope
They’re what?
I just made a startling discovery this morning. Many of you may already know this. In fact you probably have known it for years. I’m usually the last on to find out.
My revelation? Most people here in our great state of Colorado were raised in, of all places, California! How did I discover this fact? It was easy. It snowed today. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not accusing them of bringing the white stuff with them. Instead, I was able to tell because, in a quest to find a part I needed for a stock tank heater, most were operating without part of their staff and none of their parts arriving in the freight because … “It Snowed.” They were right, we had nearly one quarter of an inch of snow where it accumulated among the big bare palaces where none even accumulated at all.
Because of this “raging blizzard,” delivery trucks couldn’t make their rounds and some establishments were closed anyway “due to the storm.” Seriously?
Like many of you, I have lived my entire life, 76 years of it to be exact in Colorado. We’ve dug out from four foot snow storms, piled even deeper by 40 mile an hour winds.
I have driven from Brush to Greeley on roads better suited for ice skates to get two bags of grain.
Knock on wood, but I have never put so much as a scratch on any vehicle I’ve ever owned from a mishap on a slick road. Bet many of you can say the same.
So … where did all these folks who can’t brave a quarter inch snow come from? Has to be California, perhaps Florida? Is it just possible they all just washed their car and didn’t want to get it out of the garage to get dirty again? The world seems to stop when it snows, even 12 flakes! Come on guys, you probably moved here to ski, toboggan down our slopes or enjoy snowball fights. It snows in Colorado! Get in your car or delivery truck, drive carefully and get the heck to work!
Colorado requires a driving test before they will give you a license to drive. I know you must know how. You might even learn to enjoy passing through the snow covered landscapes you can see in a moving automobile.
Well, I’ve blown off enough steam to melt the snow off a road or two. Now, if anybody drove to work on one of them, I can get my darn parts!
