Fleming's Lady Wildcats have taken the 14th spot in a 24-team Regional bracket following the completion of the regular volleyball season. The Lady Wildcats stand at 12-11 following a pair of losses last week, but need just one win to qualify for the upcoming 1A State Tournament.
Fleming traveled on back-to-back nights last week for Thursday/Friday action that pitted them against the top two ranked teams in Colorado's 1A volleyball.
The Lady Wildcats opened at Merino against the top-ranked Lady Rams. Fleming fell by scores of 25-13 and 25-14 in sets one and two. They came closer in set three with 25-20 loss, but Merino earned the sweep.
The following night at Stratton, the Lady Wildcats faced off with the number two team - the Stratton Lady Eagles. Fleming played closer sets with the Lady Eagles, but fell again in three sets, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-23.
Sophomore Ciana Lousberg and freshman Hayley Chamberlain shared setting duties at Merino on Thursday. Ciana Lousberg assisted with 11; Chamberlain with six.
Sophomore Ashley Bornhoft put up team-high numbers at the net in kills with seven. Chamberlain followed with four of her own.
Junior Kylie Bretz-Hoskins and Bornhoft led the Lady Wildcat defense at the net with two assisted blocks apiece. Sophomore Quincy Stull put up one solo block.
Sophomore Brooke Schaefer led the back row efforts in digs and on serve receive. As the team's libero, she put up 16 digs with no errors. She received 31 serves for the night.
On Friday night at Stratton, Bornhoft found her groove at the net and hit double digits with 13 kills. Stull followed with eight kills in the match.
At the net, Bornhoft also led in blocks with two; one solo and one assisted. Bretz-Hoskins assisted with one.
Three players hit double digits in digs from the back row. Schaefer led the pack with 24 for the night. Ciana Lousberg and Emoree Lousberg added 22 and 11 digs, respectively.
In addition to top numbers in digs, Schaefer received 17 serves giving her a double-double for the contest. Sophomores Siena Donnelson and Emoree Lousberg also contributed double digits on serve receive at 14 and 12, respectively.
As the number 14 team in the Regional bracket, the Lady Wildcats are set to travel to the home of the Cheraw Lady Wolverines who hold the number 11 slot.
MaxPreps puts Cheraw at 19-4 on the year. Regional action between the Lady Wildcats and the Lady Wolverines is slated for Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.
