Wendy Evans rejoins team to lead health and wellness
A familiar face to many in our community has rejoined the team at Haxtun Health. Wendy Evans, Physical Therapist, has rejoined the Haxtun Health Care Team as Director of Health and Wellness. Although she will be treating physical therapy patients, her focus is on developing a range of programs in the community, including fitness classes, education programs, seminars and fitness assessments. Her role will also include establishing relationships with community partners to provide education and support for schools, civic groups and local businesses in health, wellness and injury prevention. Evans also brings back massage and trigger point dry-needling services to Haxtun Health.
Health and Wellness
expansion at Haxtun Health
The expansion of Health and Wellness at Haxtun Health will begin with the launch of three programs in the upcoming months: A balance program for seniors this fall, weight loss program in the new year and a weekly hi-intensity Tabata exercise class to kick off spring.
Balance Program: Launching Nov. 1, the Stepping On balance program is a free, seven-week fall prevention program for aging adults. The program is designed for individuals in the community with an increased risk, fear of or have a history of falling. Fall risk increases as we age, and a fall prevention program can significantly improve balance. Generally speaking, the program lends itself to those over the age of 60; however, this program may suit any individual with balance issues. The program helps participants learn how to reduce their risk of falling and how to maintain their independence. Stepping On includes gentle group exercises to improve balance and educational talks from experts. Topics covered include home hazards, community safety, managing medications, safe footwear, vision and healthy eating. No prior knowledge or exercise experience is required. The group will meet once a week, for seven weeks at the Haxtun Community Center. Sessions will be Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and will include balance and educational activities.
To sign up or learn more about upcoming classes, visit HaxtunHealth.org, email Wendy at [email protected] or call the Haxtun Health Physical Therapy Department at (970) 774-6123. Registration for the Stepping On balance class will close on Nov. 4 - spots are limited.
