Chalk up two more wins for the Haxtun Lady Bulldogs and the team sits 14-6 overall with post-season play just around the corner. Tuesday night's action included a Haxtun sweep over number three ranked Otis at home in the annual pink out game. Last week, the Lady Bulldogs picked up a three set win on the road in Kimball, Neb.
The win over Otis this week moves Haxtun up to number 11 in Colorado High School Activities Association live RPI rankings as of Wednesday morning. The loss for Otis drops those Lady Bulldogs down to number five. Merino sits at number one in 1A action with a perfect 16-0 record and the only unbeaten team in the respective classification in all of Colorado.
Last week's action kicked off on Thursday as the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Nebraska to take on the Lady Longhorns in Kimball. Haxtun won pretty easily with a three-set sweep, 25-11, 25-17 and 25-21.
Bobbi Starkebaum and Cassidy Goddard led at the net in kills, both with double digits. Starkebaum put 11 balls down on the court followed by Goddard with 10. Jayleigh Bullard registered seven kills followed by Megan Walker with six and Maggie Kilgour and Julia Freeman, each with three.
Starkebaum also led at the net in blocks. She denied five kill attempts by the Lady Longhorns. Bullard registered four blocks followed by Walker with two.
Four ladies sent aces over the net in Thursday's game including Emily Anderson, Walker, Kelsie Hadeen and Freeman. Anderson, Walker and Hadeen each registered two aces while Freeman sent over one. As a team, the Lady Bulldogs served 85.1 percent.
In the back row, Hadeen led her team in digs with 10. Anderson tallied nine and Goddard registered six. On serve receive, Goddard tallied 21 successful passes followed by Freeman with 11.
Setters Walker and Hadeen combined for a total of 28 assists on the night. Walker put up 15 followed by Hadeen with 13.
Tuesday night's action put the Lady Bulldogs from Haxtun in their black and pink jersey's as the team worked to raise funds for Haxtun School Secretary Colleen Lockwood and the Haxtun Health Cancer Assistance Fund in the annual pink out contest. The team took on the highly ranked Otis Lady Bulldogs at home.
Haxtun picked up the three-set win 25-22, 25-22 and 25-23. Stats for the contest against Otis were not yet available as of early Wednesday morning
Friday night the Lady Bulldogs are set to face off with the Sedgwick County Lady Cougars on the road in the their second outing together this season. Haxtun picked up the win in early August with a five-set win over the Lady Cougars on their home court in tournament play. Sedgwick County currently holds a 15-4 overall record.
