3rd ranked Wildcats defeat 4th ranked Mustangs; set to host #1

The Fleming Wildcats now own a two-game winning streak following wins over Weldon Valley and more recently Prairie. The league's third-ranked Wildcats hosted the fourth-ranked Mustangs last Friday finishing out in front 40-32. This week, the Wildcats are set to host top-ranked Briggsdale.

In Friday's contest, quarterback Derek Houser - a junior member of the team - completed five of eight passes. The threw for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Freshman Dane Cunningham was on the receiving end of three of Houser's passes. He tallied 17 yards and a TD. Senior Matix Haney followed with 17 yards off two completions.

Senior Wyatt Cochran led the Wildcats in yardage on the ground. He carried the ball 31 times for 218 yards and three TDs. Haney followed, gaining 189 Wildcat yards on 19 carries for two TDs.

Haney led the defensive charge with seven tackles; three solo and four assisted. Freshman Conner Marchant and senior David Betley followed with six tackles apiece. Cochran and sophomore Pierson Japp each added five tackles in the game.

With three touchdowns in the contest, Cochran led on the scoreboard with 18 points. Haney followed with 12 points off his two TDs. Cunningham's TD catch coupled with a pair of points after kicks gave him the remaining 10 points for the home team.

The Wildcats are scheduled to host Briggsdale on Friday, Oct. 20. The Falcons hold an undefeated record in the league with a 4-3 overall record. Game time on Friday night is slated for 7 p.m.
