Lady Wildcats take losses at Weldona and Simla over past week

The Fleming Lady Wildcats suffered a pair of road losses over the past week to two highly ranked teams.

The week opened at Weldon on Thursday, Oct. 6, where the Lady Wildcats faced off with the Lady Warriors for the second time this season. Weldon Valley holds the second spot in league standings behind Briggsdale; Fleming stands in number three.

Both outings between the two squads went the distance, ending after five sets of play. In the most recent match, Fleming took victories in sets one and two, 25-22 and 25-21. Weldon Valley won the remaining three close sets, 25-22, 25-20 and 15-12.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, Fleming traveled to Simla to face off with the Simla Lady Cubs. Simla owns the second slot in their league standings behind Kiowa. The Lady Cubs are undefeated in their league and 14-3 overall record prior to Saturday's match.

The local ladies played a close set one falling by four to the Lady Cubs, 25-21. Simla took another close victory in set two, 25-20, and sealed the win in third with a 25-17 set win.

Individual stats for the Lady Wildcats were not available on MaxPreps as of press time. The team currently holds a 9-7 overall record and a league record of 3-3.

Fleming is set to return to their home court this week, playing back-to-back Thursday-Friday action against Sedgwick County and Prairie. A 4 p.m. start is listed for both nights.

Fleming met the Prairie Lady Mustangs for league action in mid-September. The Lady Wildcats swept that contest at Prairie.

On Tuesday, Oct. 17, the Lady Wildcats are scheduled to play against the Lady Dragons in Holyoke. Matches that day are also scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
