Cowboys, cattle & pearl shirt snaps

Today has been an unusually boring day. That is notable since I have no doubt few could ever equal the number of days I have spent doing … darn near nothing!

How I got this way is my own darn fault. I’ve always been a stickler for doing things just right. Admittedly, that rarely happens but I hang on to that goal. I truly don’t have the skill set required to pull this off but I still try anyway. Cattle, of course, are a big part of my world.

Yesterday we gathered them all, sorted off the cows and put them through the chute, gave all their vaccines as they passed through, then repeating the process with the calves. Our four man crew, having been through this process many times before, performed flawlessly. The cows, on their fourth time through the procedure, walked up the alley, passing briefly in the chute, then walked out into the holding corral seemingly bored with the whole thing, just as their humans appeared to be, sniffing out their calves and offering them lunch within minutes.

No less conscious of their “watering hole” the human crew made their way to our shaded outside seating area, enhanced by a cooler full of “adult refreshments.” The whole process took less than an hour, the “refreshment” portion somewhat longer.

As the organizer of the event, my shirt snaps were about to pop out of pride for all, human and bovine!
