Lady Wildcats sweep Lady Longhorns

The Fleming Lady Wildcats swept their lone match of the past week over the Lone Star Lady Longhorns putting them in the second spot in league rankings according to MaxPreps. The Lady Wildcats traveled to Lone Star to face off with the Lady Longhorns on Thursday, Sept. 14.

Lone Star went down easy in sets one and two; 25-15 and 25-19, but the third set went into extra points. The Lady Wildcats eventually came out on top, 28-26, to take the match victory in three.

Sophomore Ashley Bornhoft put in the team-high effort at the net with 10 kills. Senior MadiKay Serrato added seven kills.

Bornhoft also led the group in blocks with two. She blocked one solo and one assisted. Sophomore Ciana Lousberg tallied one assisted block.

From the setter’s position, Ciana Lousberg assisted the Lady Wildcat hitters with 14 set. Freshman Hayley Chamberlain assisted with four.

Serrato and Emoree Lousberg led from the back row on serve receive and digs. Serrato received 13 serves; Emoree Lousberg put up 12. That same duo added 10 digs apiece from the back row. Chamberlain dug nine and freshman Hadley Stull added eight digs.

Serrato served 100 percent for the night after making good on 13 attempts. She put over the team-high four aces. Emoree Lousberg also served 100 percent on 12 attempts. She added three aces. Ciana Lousberg and Chamberlain served two aces apiece.

The Lady Wildcats were set to take on Briggsdale on Thursday, Sept. 21. Briggsdale held the top spot in the North Central League prior to the match with a perfect 3-0 league record.

On Saturday, Sept. 23, the Lady Wildcats are scheduled to host their annual Homecoming match. This year’s contest brings neighboring Haxtun to Fleming’s court. The two teams faced off earlier in the season with Haxtun taking a 3-1 victory in tournament play. Matches on Saturday are set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
