Wayne O. "Jack" Falk, Haxtun, passed away Sept. 12, 2023 at the age of 95.
Jack was born in a "Sod House" in Dawson County, near Sumner, Neb. on Sept. 15, 1927 to Silas and Elvira (Mellberg) Falk. Jack came to Colorado when he was two years old with his parents and his sister Edna Glee (Orcutt) in 1929. The family moved 12 miles north of Haxtun, where he farmed for many years. His sister Doris E. (Koester) was born in 1934.
In 1960, he married Patricia Maggard, they made their home on the farm for a few years, where they welcomed Roger Wayne Falk in 1965 and Linda Joanna Falk in 1976. In 1969 they moved into the town of Haxtun.
Jack was baptized and confirmed at Fairfield Covenant Church. He became a member of Haxtun United Methodist Church in 1957.
He attended Fairfield School for 10 years then finished at Haxtun High School graduating in 1945, going on to attend Colorado A&M (now CSU). Jack was drafted and served in the United States Army in 1946, he served in the Washington D.C. area, becoming a cryptic Graphic Code compiler and was Honorably Discharged in 1947.
Jack started working in 1959 for USDA-Soil Conservation Service, retiring after 39 years of service. He loved serving the Phillips and Sedgwick county Farmers.
He served on the Haxtun Hospital Board of Directors for 20 years, where he was chairman for 10 years. While he was chairman of the Board in 1990, the Board expanded the ECU area of the Hospital.
Jack was honored with Grand Marshall of the Haxtun Corn Festival in 2001.
Jack loved baseball and played baseball for the "Haxtun Tigers" for 10 years. He also refereed football for six years.
Jack belonged to many organizations including the BPO Elks (Life Time Member), Masonic Lodge 54 AF & AM (Life Time Member), American Legion, JCs, Lions Club, Haxtun Fightin' Booster Club (serving as President in 1970 and again in 1981). He loved rooting for the Bulldogs!
Jack is survived by his wife Patricia; son Roger and wife Beth; daughter Linda; grandchildren Madelyn Falkstrom and husband Kieran, Robert Falk and wife Emily, Brooklyn Walker and husband Scott, Isabel Walker and Silas Walker.
Memorial donations in Jack's name may be made to Haxtun Methodist Church or Haxtun Hospital District Foundation, c/o Tennant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
Funeral services were Sept. 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the Haxtun Methodist Church with John Chapdelaine officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Haxtun Cemetery.
