Thayer appears via WebEx for recent hearing; next hearing July 18

Julie Thayer appeared in front of District Court Judge Justin Haenlein via WebEx technology on Tuesday, May 16. The 41-year-old is facing charges of identity theft, forgery and criminal impersonation stemming from circumstances when she served as the director of local daycare facility.

Thayer was initially charged with the crimes and made her first appearance in December 2022. Since then, her case has been held over or continued for various reasons. In the most recent hearing, Thayer appeared on a big screen via tele-conference technology in the front of the court room on the top floor of the County Courthouse in Holyoke, as did her attorney, Justie Nicol.

Nicol told the judge that she and Thayer have been working closely with District Attorney Travis Sides to reach an agreement in the case. Nicol said both sides needed a more time to file paperwork and “iron out” final details.

According to information from the court record, Thayer is facing three counts of identity theft, 12 counts of forgery and two counts of criminal impersonation. All of the charges filed are class six, class five and class four felonies.

In Thayer’s initial court appearance, District Court Judge Justin Haenlein implemented protection orders in the case. Protection orders were filed for all victims related to the charges and such orders will remain in place throughout the court process. The protection orders prohibit Thayer from harassing, intimidating, retaliating or tampering with evidence or victims relating to the case. Haenlein said the protection orders are standard and mandatory in such cases.

Thayer’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 18 at 9:30 a.m.

In April 2022, Thayer pled guilty to one count of child abuse in an unrelated case. She is currently serving a two-year supervised probation sentence.
