In honor of their 70th wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. McConnell, were given a surprise party last Wednesday, March 16, by their neighbors and friends. Guests: Mr. and Mrs. Claud Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Goddard, Mr. and Mrs. Dana Archbold, and Mr. and Mrs. Abner Dunbar.

Closing a successful basketball season, the Dailey High School team won the Logan County Tournament, which took place in Sterling last weekend. The title gives Dailey its third consecutive championship in Logan County and the team comes into permanent possession of the cup. The Dailey squad was composed of Wheeler, C. Mock, Grauberger, Melvin Spanjer, Warren Heckman, Hinde, Frank, Kelly, B. Mock and Anderson.

Fleming News - Members of the Fleming FHA who plan to attend the State convention in Fort Collins next week: Mrs. Doris Stonuey, Velva Burton, Karen Shepler, Velva Miles, Doris Schaefer, Barbara Schlenz, Inez Kinzie, JoAnn Sonnenberg, Joan Fitzjohn, and chapter mothers Mrs. Shepler, and Mrs. Sonnenberg.

Mr. and Mrs., Robert Grauberger, Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Radford Jr., Coral Gordon, George W. Miller and Tracy Borah were among the Haxtun people who attended the AAU basketball games in Denver Saturday evening.

Relatives in the community have received word that Loren Garretson, Ted Roos and Ronald Garretson were able to spend a few hours together recently at Yokosuka, Japan. This was the first time the three had met since they entered the naval service. Ronald is stationed at the Yokosuka signal tower, and Ted and Loren were on their way to Okinawa.

Hospital News - Three rooms in the hospital are in the process of spring housecleaning, with the material and labor being furnished by Mr. and Mrs., Ottis Dinsmore, Mr. and Mrs. Gust Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Johnson.

March 23, 1978

Russell Kinzie and Donna Scott are among six acts in the junior division that qualified to complete compete in the Stars of Tomorrow Contest to be held in Sterling next week. Miss Scott plays the electric piano, and Kinzie performed a tumbling act in the competition. The event is sponsored by Kiwanis.

Dr. Robert Marlow has confirmed that he will leave the Haxtun Family Medicine Clinic when his contract expires in August to join Dr. Curtis Clark of Sterling in a family medical practice there.

The starting five for the Fleming girls' basketball team were named either to the league all-conference team or given an honorable mention: Darlene Wiebers, Jodi Lambert, Kendra Morison, Theresa Katein and Arlene Wiebers. Bob Vandenbark, and Brent Langdon received all-conference and honorable mention, respectively.

Tim and Laurie Fetzer of Haxtun are the parents of a baby boy, Leighton Robert, born on March 17, 1993.

First birthday: Dalton, son of Scott and Kim Hinde of Sterling, celebrated his first birthday on March 6, 1993.

Winning all-conference from Fleming's varsity basketball teams: Frank Lousberg, Todd Wisdom and Candi Mekelburg. Honorable mention was given to Clarissa Lousberg.

Six Bulldogs receive conference honors: Dana Salvador, Jennifer Waite, Jamie Lueth, Crisa McClain, Sean Gillotte and Mike McClain.

It's no secret that the condition of grocery store has many community members worried about its future. Sam Mancini, Owner of Bella's Market, plans to host a community meeting to discuss the store's future and to answer tough questions about its recent lack of merchandise.

Despite a snowy forecast and several inches of fresh powder, the Haxtun Lions Club hosted the annual Chuckwagon Dinner and Show Saturday night featuring entertainment by the 17th Avenue Allstars.

Fleming Future Business Leaders of America gave a report to school board members on March 19. President Tyler Vandenbark and Vice President Taylor King reported, along with their advisor Sharon Seger, that the FBLA Chapter has 50 members, the most there has ever been in Fleming.
