Benefit for livestock judging team set for Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
A local 4-H Livestock Judging Team made up of Kellum Carnahan, Julesburg,, Brooklyn Plumb, Haxtun, Lucinda Mares, Holyoke, and Bradie Midcap, Wray, won the Colorado State livestock judging contest in June 2022. Because of their win, they were given the opportunity to compete at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville, Kentucky in November 2022. This is the most prestigious national contest, and each state can only send their highest-ranking team.
The team placed third out of 28 teams at the NAILE and Kellum Carnahan was the high individual in the contest! This achievement earned them an invitation to compete at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh, Scotland in June 2023. With this honor also comes fundraising so all members can attend and have this once in a lifetime opportunity.
As part of the fundraising efforts, Marian and Les Yoshimoto owners of Lucy's Place, have generously offered to have a free will donation for the team on Saturday, March 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lucy's Place. The Livestock Judging Team will be waiting tables as they serve hamburgers and cheeseburgers with chips. Roger Koberstein of Koberstein Angus has donated the beef, Rotella Bakery and Cash-Wa have donated the buns. (Lucy's Place will offer a limited menu aside from the burgers). This also coincides with Meat-In Day in the state of Colorado.
The Livestock Judging team would appreciate the communities of Northeast Colorado's support that day. If you have questions please feel free to reach out to coach Brandy Morris at (303) 243-1377. Donations can also be be made payable to Phillips County 4-H and mailed to Phillips County Extension, Attn: Jessie Stewart, P.O. Box 328, Holyoke, CO 80734.
