Dr. H.R. Rasor, who for several months has been in charge of the McKnight hospital at Haxtun, suspended his medical practice here last week and returned to Crook where he will reopen his office. It has not been learned whether or not the McKnight hospital here will continue to operate.

Charles Spry, well-known Phillips County farmer for more than 20 years, passed away last Thursday at his home two miles east of Paoli. He was past 70 years of age.

A rabbit drive will be held this Friday northeast of Fleming. The territory to be covered is sagebrush country, and lies between the Fleming/Crook and the Fleming/Proctor roads. Dell Matthews will be captain of the east line in the drive and Fred Harnish will captain the west wing.

Property to be sold at auction next Wednesday by Jacob Fix is advertised in The Harvest this week. Mr. and Mrs. Fix are leaving the farm four miles east of Haxtun.

Feb. 11, 1953

Miss Helen Fryrear, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Fryrear, who is attending Barnes School of Commerce, has been nominated as a candidate for the Queen of Hearts.

The Haxtun Bulldogs bow to the Holyoke Dragons in a fast-moving basketball game. Zeke Garretson, with his "dead eye" shooting was high-point man, accounting for 22 of the Bulldogs' points. Kelso led the Holyoke team with 17. Other team members: Dean Davis, Ruch, B. Stansbury, Scott Hinde and Potter, with first names not all in story.

Hospital News - Mr. and Mrs. Frank Freemyer Jr. are the parents of a baby daughter born Feb. 10. She has been named Laura Dell. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Dodson of Venango, Neb., are the parents of a son born Feb. 10. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Riley of Sidney, Neb., are the parents of a baby son, Bruce Wayne, born Monday.

Fleming News ­- The Reviewers' Club, met Feb. 4 at the home of Mrs. Emma Wilson for election of officers: Mrs. A.J. Ahnstedt, president; Mrs. Mary Munday, vice president; Mrs. Clyde Goff, secretary; Mrs. Emma Wilson, treasurer; Miss Bonnie Morris, publicity.

Feb. 9, 1978

Birth: Mr. and Mrs. Gary Waite of Haxtun, are the proud parents of a baby boy born Feb. 2, 1978. He has been named Monty Gene.

Haxtun wrestling cheerleaders: Renae Salvador, Joni Ham and Kristie Constance.

Haxtun wrestlers: Kibby Brazelton, Norm Tanner, Brad Lightsey, Mike Hainley, Brett Salvador, Chad Fix, Dave Kain and Kevin Constance. Leonard Hainley coaches the team.

Webelos present at the potluck supper held Tuesday in Haxtun: Tony Burmester, Eric Gamble, Virgil Kinzie and Eric Lundgren. Cub Scouts: Bill Dieckman, Terry Burmester, Mark Thompson, Kurt Stansbury, Myron Uecker, Jeff Zimmerman, Eddie Bennett, Greg Koellner, Russell Kinzie, Dennis Amen and Randy Ricker.

Ellie Jeffers has been hired as office manager of The Haxtun Herald and began her duties last week. She replaces Sue Bauer, who held the position since December 1975.

Fleming Senior Citizens: Mrs. Monroe reported that the Historical Society can now move the old depot to the location west of the water tower for a museum.

Feb. 10, 1993

Haxtun elementary students grades K-3 performed a tumbling program for parents and friends under the direction of Dave Shafer, physical education teacher. A new item this year was the balance beam made by Larry McCarty and Doug Larson.

A chimney fire at the house of Terry and Phyllis Hadeen last Tuesday caused a minimal damage to the home, thanks to the fast thinking of their sons, Doug and Scott. Naida Bamford also stopped and helped the boys.

Winners of the basketball drawing at the Fifth Annual Special Skills Tournament are Chris Farrell, and Tanya Headdy, pictured with coaches, Melisa Wolever, and Katrina Crawford. Fleming school was also represented by John Headdy, Sam Wolever, Paul Sweet, Justin Ride, Daniel Fuchs, Jessica Predmore, John Wolever, Dale Comstock and Sarah Erlenbach. Haxtun School was represented by Naomi Schafer.

Rita Hiller earned the honor of the Haxtun Chamber of Commerce 2012 Employee of the Year at the Chamber's annual banquet on Monday, Feb. 11.

Kirby J. Atkins of Haxtun, recently won second place in the A Non-Irrigated division of the 2012 National Corn Growers' Assocation's Corn Yield Contest in Colorado.
